Earlier this year, Teva announced plans to relocate its head office and logistics centre to a brand new, purpose built site near Castleford, West Yorkshire. The new building has a capacity no less than five times bigger than the current site, or floor space covering the equivalent of three football pitches.

The facility will be the company’s main UK distribution hub, significantly expanding and strengthening its supply chain warehouse and logistics activity. The highly automated, state-of-the-art systems will bring benefits in terms of both supply and service. The company says that the move is on track, and the new site should be fully operational during the first part of 2009.

It all comes as part of Teva’s increased investment in the UK. Last year, it created a respiratory and regulatory Centre of Excellence in Harlow, and is also planning other investments in the UK.

John Beighton, Teva’s Managing Director in the UK, said: “The move is a really big project for us – one that helps consolidate our position as one of the UK’s leading pharmaceutical companies. But more importantly, the new site will bring big improvements for our customers, as we finally have the space and the facilities to provide the best possible service.”

Teva creates piece of history

A piece of history will be created next month when local MP and Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Yvette Cooper, will attend a ceremony at the site of the new Teva UK Limited head office and logistics centre to celebrate the burial of a time capsule.

The capsule will be filled with a series of mementoes that have been carefully chosen to represent the rich cultural heritage of its Yorkshire home, as well as the history of Teva.

Earlier this year, Teva announced plans to expand and strengthen its supply chain warehouse and logistic centre, and at the same time relocate its UK head office to the new purpose-built premises. The move will put Teva’s main logistics centre and head office staff in a brand-new building that has a capacity five times bigger than the firm’s existing site near Leeds, and will have enough floor space to cover three Old Trafford football pitches!

Teva says the project is developing apace and the new site will be equipped with fully-automated, state-of-the-art racking, picking and packing systems. These will help deliver great advances in terms of capacity, customer service and delivery of its medicines. The new site is expected to be fully operational later this year.

“This is a really exciting time at Teva,” said Managing Director John Beighton. “The move to the new site helps consolidate our position as one of the UK’s leading pharmaceutical companies. But more importantly, the new site will bring big improvements for our customers, as we finally have the space and the facilities to provide the best possible service. Equally important is our responsibility to the local area that we will soon be part of. The time capsule burial project is just one of a range of initiatives in our community relations programme.”

The time capsule, which has been put together with help from local schoolchildren, a local heritage group and Teva staff, will be buried at 12:45pm on Friday 11 July.

Teva welcomes election of Kim Innes as BGMA Chairman

Teva has welcomed the election of Kim Innes, Director of the company’s generics business, as Chairman of the British Generic Manufacturers Association (BGMA) for a two-year term. During her spell in office, she will divide her time between Association duties and her role as Director, Teva Generics. John Beighton, Managing Director of Teva UK Limited, said he was delighted on both a personal and company level at Kim’s election: “Kim is an outstanding personality in the generics world and I’m delighted that she has been elected to lead our industry. Her vision, energy and knowledge of the industry will stand her in good stead, and I’m confident she will be an effective and vocal ambassador for the Association’s members on behalf of the generics industry and its customers.”

Kim has worked in the generics industry since 1991 and was appointed to head Teva’s generics business unit in the UK in 2006. John said: “We have a very strong management team in our generics business supporting Kim in her Teva Generics role, so she can devote some time to building on the BGMA’s already excellent work in supporting the industry’s call for a fair deal for generics. Meanwhile I look forward, as a member company of the BGMA, to working with Kim on telling the great story that the BGMA and its members have to offer.”

Teva UK Limited launches Student Bursary Scheme

In a bid to help alleviate the current "demographic timebomb” facing pharmacy in the UK, Teva UK Limited, the UK’s leading generics manufacturer, is launching a Student Bursary Scheme.

The company is a keen supporter of pharmacy in the UK, and already has several initiatives in place to help pharmacists make the most of their role in the ever-changing UK healthcare climate. And now it’s extending this support to include the pharmacists of the future. The Student Bursary will be available to students who want to gain a degree-level qualification in pharmacy or similar but may suffer hardship without additional financial support.

Teva’s UK HR Director, Lynda Wilebore, said: “We’re delighted to be able to introduce the Student Bursary Scheme, which we hope will make an important contribution to lives of under-privileged students in the UK.”

She added: “We believe it is important to have a community support programme that is relevant to our business. As the UK’s leading generics company, we’re totally committed to pharmacy in the UK. This means we’re not only interested in supporting the pharmacists of today, but also in ensuring the pharmacists of tomorrow get the best possible start.”

The Student Bursary Scheme is open to any home UK student who is either already attending, or who has been offered a place on, any full-time UK-based undergraduate course approved by a school of pharmacy or similar. The White Paper can move this forward and position pharmacy as an essential component of delivering healthcare in the community.”

Mr Beighton called on contractors to make the most of the sources of help they already have to be in the best position to capitalise on new opportunities. “Firms like Teva are already offering help to deliver MURs and other services. My message is to say that people like us are available to help – take that help from partners, build relationships with industry that enable contractors to be ready for the first day of every new service.”

Mr Beighton added that the company’s Partners in Progress programme, launched in late 2007 to help contractors deliver MURs, was an example of how pharmacy and industry partners could work together to provide a sustainable programme that delivers patient care and benefits to pharmacy.

Link to White Paper

Pharmacy in England: building on strengths - delivering the future published by The Stationery Office on 3 April 2008 and available at http://www.official-documents.gov.uk/document/cm73/7341/7341.pdf

Teva UK Limited launches new website

Teva UK Limited has launched a new website.

The new website, which is at www.tevauk.com, has been fully updated with a fresh new approach and contemporary design.
