Teva creates piece of history

16th June 2008

A piece of history will be created next month when local MP and Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Yvette Cooper, will attend a ceremony at the site of the new Teva UK Limited head office and logistics centre to celebrate the burial of a time capsule.

The capsule will be filled with a series of mementoes that have been carefully chosen to represent the rich cultural heritage of its Yorkshire home, as well as the history of Teva.

Earlier this year, Teva announced plans to expand and strengthen its supply chain warehouse and logistic centre, and at the same time relocate its UK head office to the new purpose-built premises. The move will put Teva’s main logistics centre and head office staff in a brand-new building that has a capacity five times bigger than the firm’s existing site near Leeds, and will have enough floor space to cover three Old Trafford football pitches!

Teva says the project is developing apace and the new site will be equipped with fully-automated, state-of-the-art racking, picking and packing systems. These will help deliver great advances in terms of capacity, customer service and delivery of its medicines. The new site is expected to be fully operational later this year.

“This is a really exciting time at Teva,” said Managing Director John Beighton. “The move to the new site helps consolidate our position as one of the UK’s leading pharmaceutical companies. But more importantly, the new site will bring big improvements for our customers, as we finally have the space and the facilities to provide the best possible service. Equally important is our responsibility to the local area that we will soon be part of. The time capsule burial project is just one of a range of initiatives in our community relations programme.”

The time capsule, which has been put together with help from local schoolchildren, a local heritage group and Teva staff, will be buried at 12:45pm on Friday 11 July.
