Teva steps up UK investment programme

25th July 2008

Teva UK Limited, the UK’s leading generics manufacturer, has taken a major step forward in its UK investment programme with the burial of a time capsule at the site of its new head office and logistics centre.

The ceremony, which was presided over by local Castleford MP and Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Yvette Cooper, marked a milestone in the company’s investment programme. Earlier this year, Teva announced plans to relocate its head office and logistics centre to a brand new, purpose built site near Castleford, West Yorkshire. The new building has a capacity no less than five times bigger than the current site, or floor space covering the equivalent of three football pitches.

The facility will be the company’s main UK distribution hub, significantly expanding and strengthening its supply chain warehouse and logistics activity. The highly automated, state-of-the-art systems will bring benefits in terms of both supply and service. The company says that the move is on track, and the new site should be fully operational during the first part of 2009.

It all comes as part of Teva’s increased investment in the UK. Last year, it created a respiratory and regulatory Centre of Excellence in Harlow, and is also planning other investments in the UK.

John Beighton, Teva’s Managing Director in the UK, said: “The move is a really big project for us – one that helps consolidate our position as one of the UK’s leading pharmaceutical companies. But more importantly, the new site will bring big improvements for our customers, as we finally have the space and the facilities to provide the best possible service.”
