#BeConnected 2017 – the third conference run by Teva Europe’s Oncology business was beamed from Barcelona to Basingstoke, enabling around 45 Doctors and Nurses to watch the live presentation sessions on screen in The Ark Conference Centre, located in Hampshire Hospital’s NHS Trust.
BeCOn – or Building Excellence and Continuity in Oncology – is an initiative from Teva which intends to optimise care for people with cancer and improve their quality of life. By providing tailored information and support to patients, their families and healthcare professionals, BeCOn aims to offer a guiding light through the difficulties and complexities of the cancer journey.
The #BeConnected Summit sessions were designed to empower haematologists, oncologists, palliative care and pain specialists with the skills needed to optimise their patients’ personal cancer journey. It encouraged participants to think more broadly about the role they play in supporting the people they treat.
Topics ranged from how to have difficult conversations with patients and their families about end of life care, to magic and emotional intelligence, and what these learnings look like in real-life clinical practice
Live streaming enabled participation across Europe
The #BeCOnnected event hosted live in Barcelona employed live streaming to share the speaker presentations beyond the conference room, opening up the event to hundreds more participants in real-time, for the first time:
#BeCOnnected was streamed live on the www.beconnected.eu website to registered participants, several sessions were beamed to other face to face events in the UK and Poland and shared live through a local medical society platform to Germany; and finally - in a first for Teva events - Facebook Live was used to stream content to the public via the Teva Europe Facebook page.
The programme for the Doctors attending the Basingstoke event included;
The feedback from the delegates that attended was overwhelmingly positive. Many of them commented that the forum provided access to information and presentations from international key opinion leaders that had really enriched their learning experience. Some said it had inspired them to change their practice as soon as they return to their clinics.
Julia Jones, Director of OncoCare and Women’s Health Business Unit for Teva UK said: "We’re delighted to be able to bring the value and the content of the Barcelona event to healthcare professionals in the UK, without the huge time commitment and disruption caused by travelling long distances."
