As one of the largest suppliers of medicines to the NHS we recognised early on that we had a responsibility to make sure we kept medicines moving for the patients that rely on us, whilst protecting the health and well-being of our employees.

Supporting patients

Our number one priority is making sure that patients continue to have access to the medicines that they rely on, which is why we’ve worked hard to maintain supplies of our products to pharmacies around the country. Our distribution and manufacturing facilities have had one of their busiest periods ever in the past few months as we’ve ramped up supply to meet additional demand for medicines. We’re also working closely with the government, in particular the Department for Health and Social Care, to make sure that the UK continues to have access to essential medicines now and in the coming months.

We know that COVID-19 is also particularly worrying for those patients who have chronic conditions such as asthma, MS or migraine. That’s why we’ve released special content on our Life Effects platform, offering support and advice from other patients dealing with chronic conditions regarding topical issues such as mental health challenges and social isolation.

Supporting our employees

We’re nothing without our people – our employees are the heart and soul of Teva, and we’re committed to doing everything we can to keep them safe. We’ve not furloughed a single employee – but we’ve adapted the way we work by supporting home working for those employees who can do so. We recognise that things are tough right now – with many employees having childcare or other caring responsibilities to deal with in addition to trying to do their day job. So we’ve made clear that family comes first – giving employees the flexibility adapt their hours and schedule to what best suits them, whenever we can.

For our essential workers on manufacturing and production sites, who continue to come into work to keep medicines moving, we’ve introduced safety measures such as social distancing and enhanced cleaning to keep them safe. We’re really proud to see absentee rates down even below where we’d normally see – a real sign of the commitment and dedication of our Teva team on the front lines.

We also recognise that mental health is a challenge for many at the moment. That’s why we’ve introduced daily wellbeing check-ins with employees – signposting them to support services such as our Employee Assistance Programme, offering tips and advice on how to keep healthy whilst working from home, as well as access to online fitness classes and other workshops.

Supporting the NHS and healthcare professionals

Like many, we’ve been in awe of the doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals who are on the front lines dealing with the COVID-19 crisis and keep us safe. As a small way of saying thanks, we’ve donated more than 100,000 tubs of Sudocrem® to the NHS to help frontline staff deal with irritation and soreness on their faces and ears caused by wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).

For our pharmacy partners we’ve taken specific steps such as bringing forward rebate payments to help their cashflow, and supplying pharmacy support packages and resources to support the incredible work they’re doing across the country.

Supporting healthcare systems worldwide

It’s not just in the UK that Teva has been supporting the fight against COVID-19. Our colleagues in Ireland have also donated more than 100,000 tubs of Sudocrem® – that’s equivalent to a personal pot of Sudocrem® for every doctor and nurse in Ireland.

In the United States, Teva has donated more than 10 million doses of a medication that is being assessed as a potential treatment option for COVID-19, as well as an additional 8 million doses to a further 26 countries. In India and Spain we’ve donated thousands of items of PPE to health authorities and hospitals, and in Israel Teva has been a major partner in a government led programme to assist older people who may be isolated or vulnerable as a result of COVID-19.

As the COVID-19 situation develops, we’ll continue to look for ways in which we can ensure a sustainable supply of medicines and address the needs of patients and communities both in the UK and across the world.
