Products

We specialise in manufacturing difficult-to-make medicines that improve the lives of patients all over the world – including treatments for multiple sclerosis, migraine, cancer and various respiratory conditions.

They are broadly split into two categories: pre-filled syringe products and blow-fill-seal products. Read on to learn more about them.

PFS

Pre-Filled Syringes

Using a state of the art facility, with cutting edge technology, we manufacture, fill and package some of our products in pre-filled syringes. These are products that allow self-administration in the home (or other non-clinical settings), which can help reduce the burden on healthcare systems.

It means that a patient can take their injectable medicine in the comfort of their own home, rather than having to travel to their GP or hospital to be treated. It also means that the correct dose is administered always, limiting waste and enhancing patient safety.

BFS

Blow-Fill-Seal

Blow-Fill-Seal (BFS) technology is a manufacturing technique used to produce small and large volume liquid-filled containers. The basic concept of BFS is that a container is formed, filled, and sealed in a continuous process without human intervention, in a sterile enclosed area inside a machine.

There are very few human interventions in the entire manufacuring process, this reduces the risk of microbial contamination and foreign particulates.

R&D

Runcorn is also home to two research and development centres, focused on developing sterile drug products and sterile device technology.

Researchers in the device technology team have developed all sorts of delivery devices, from reusable auto-injectors and syringes pre-filled with a dosage of medicine that you take out of a pack, to pen devices with drug filled cartridges ready to inject and freeze-dried powders that can be dissolved in vial kits.

Training

Our Sterile Training Academy is also located at the site – containing a sterile, temperature-controlled product team room to help train the next generation of pharmaceutical professionals.

Safety

No matter what role you have or team you work in, patient safety is at the heart of everything we do.

Scott, Production Supervisor at our Runcorn site, takes you inside our operations as he shows us some of the steps we take to put patient safety first throughout our manufacturing processes.

Take a closer look at what we do

Since our site opened in 1980, we’ve been on a huge journey with the aim of differentiating ourselves from other companies like ours, and finding our niche - not only in terms of the medicinal products we produce, but also how our business works. We pride ourselves on employing talented and highly skilled graduates who are passionate about making a difference.

And, read on to meet some of our product experts, Hikmat, Amy and Mike, they explain more about their roles and responsibilities within design and manufacturing processes.

Hikmat

Hikmat is a supervisor at our manufacturing facility in Runcorn, Cheshire. With half a million units produced by her team every day, rigorous checks and balances are needed to ensure every single unit is sterile, secure, and safe for patient use.

Meet Hikmat

Amy

Amy’s job to make sure that medicines come off the packaging line as quickly and smoothly as possible. To oversee a system as complicated as this, she believes that you need to be a born problem-solver. She’s also proud to advocate to get more women into engineering and STEM roles.

Meet Amy

Mike

Mike works on the development of medical devices and combination products, such as auto-injectors and pre-filled syringes, which dispense drugs into the body. It is precise and painstaking work as the wrong dosage could have significant consequences for patients.
